FIZ Karlsruhe relies on solar energy - new photovoltaic system in Operation

Karlsruhe, May 05, 2025 - With spring, not only nature awakens, but also a new era of sustainable energy generation at FIZ Karlsruhe starts. Our new photovoltaic system has been connected to the grid since April 25, 2025 and supplies clean electricity!

On the roofs of two FIZ buildings, 286 solar modules covering an area of 558 m² generate environmentally friendly energy. With an output of 126 kWp, we feed around 113,686 kWh into the grid every year - enough to make an important contribution to a sustainable power supply. At the same time, we avoid around 53 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. By comparison, the EU average of CO₂ emissions per capita in 2023 was 6.25 tons per year, according to the European Commission's emissions database. Our system therefore saves as much CO₂ per year as the average of eight people in the EU produce within a year.

The system's output will soon be visible in real time for anyone interested: a digital display panel in the entrance area of building 240 shows the current power generation and makes the benefits of renewable energies tangible.

With this investment, FIZ Karlsruhe clearly commits itself to climate protection and the sustainable use of resources.
