SecureNeuroAI

Our SecureNeuroAI research project aims to develop robust and legally compliant AI-based cybersecurity solutions. In doing so, we ensure the IT security of critical medical devices that use AI methods to detect life-threatening conditions such as epileptic seizures in real time. This is crucial to minimize risks from cyber attacks. It is important here to protect individuals from constant alerts that can result from targeted manipulation of the devices, which can undermine confidence in these life-saving devices and limit their activity. Manipulation can also result in the correct alerts being deliberately suppressed by cyber-attacks, including the manipulation of data and AI models throughout the AI lifecycle. 
The legal aspect focuses on the continuous legal monitoring of the development process and technical progress. The high level of data protection and IT security promoted in the overall project and in the design of the activities is taken into account from the outset and the legal compliance of the project results is also ensured. The correct application of the technical organizational measures in accordance with the GDPR has to meet the security and data protection requirements. In addition, the legal requirements for ensuring the safety of medical devices by protecting them from cyber attacks must be checked. 
The use of artificial intelligence also entails legal risks, as sensitive medical data is processed in the area of medical services. Systems that use artificial intelligence must meet certain safety and quality requirements and the operators have special obligations with regard to their use.
