A milestone: The NFDI is part of the devemopment phase of EOSC

This selection was made by the EOSC Tripartite Governance, which is made up of the EOSC Association, the European Commission and representatives of the member states and associated countries. The aim is to create a closer network between national and European research data infrastructures and thus strengthen the European scientific landscape in the long term.

The selection process was based on several key criteria: The organizations had to demonstrate a high maturity and diversity of their resources, including geographical representation and the technical means to actively contribute to the federation of the EOSC. The inclusivity of the structures and the ability to provide interoperable data and services were also taken into account. The NFDI was convincing in this selection process and will now play an active role in the further development of the EOSC federation.

The initiation of the EOSC federation marks an important step in the development of a pan-European research data infrastructure. The fact that the NFDI is involved in this phase as a partner opens up a valuable opportunity to further bring together national and European data infrastructures and make it easier for researchers to access open and FAIR data.

FIZ Karlsruhe has actively supported the development of the NFDI since its foundation and, together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), initiated the establishment of the NFDI Directorate in Karlsruhe. We are also involved in a total of nine of the NFDI consortia. The close cooperation between FIZ Karlsruhe and the NFDI underlines our commitment to open science and sustainable research data infrastructures. We look forward to supporting the further process of the EOSC federation and working together with our partners on a forward-looking research data landscape.
