DARIA

The DARIA project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), can be seen as a continuation of the EIDI project in terms of content. Similar to EIDI, DARIA deals with the phenomenon of identity theft in the digital world. The central question is: How can default risk be minimized and identity fraud prevented? The project has an interdisciplinary appoach and integrates the fields of IT, law and psychology.

Consumers and providers of online services and commerce are equally vulnerable to identity theft and fraud through stolen identity data. To enable online service providers and retailers to secure transactions and at the same time ensure the protection of consumer data, innovative and data protection-compliant procedures must be developed. In doing so, it is important to consider the requirements and acceptance of consumers and to examine the legal framework.

The main objectives of this project are the development of blocking notices for stolen identity data of private victims and the provision of risk assessments for partner companies. A risk trust is to replace a credit agency such as Schufa, which manages pseudonymized blocking notices and risk data and replaces the plain text profiles of users. Another focus is on the data protection-compliant implementation of risk trusteeship. To ensure legal security, the compatibility of the concepts with applicable data protection, liability, criminal law and IT security law will be examined.

Project partners are Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (Institute of Computer Science) as consortium leader and the University of Duisburg-Essen (Department of General Psychology: Cognition)
