FAIRCORE4EOSC

The project supports a FAIR EOSC and addresses the gaps identified in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Using existing technologies and services, the project will develop nine new EOSC core components to improve the discoverability and interoperability of a larger set of research results.

In the FAIRCORE4EOSC project, which started in mid-2022, we are involved in two roles: Firstly, as an aggregation service for metadata on mathematical research software and, secondly, as coordinator of the mathematics case study.

Our work is initially focused on expanding the methods already used to build swMATH for recognizing software in publications, i.e. references to software in research articles are to be automatically found and extracted even more reliably. The swMATH metadata will be transferred to Software Heritage via an API interface for the FAIR exchange of data and added to the source code stored there. This metadata transfer is also intended to trigger the archiving of source code that is available in swMATH but missing in Software Heritage. Within the project, a use case will demonstrate the benefits of proving mathematical research data for the EOSC community. This will make metadata, which was previously only relevant within mathematical research, an integral part of the European Open Science Cloud and usable across disciplines. The experience gained in this sub-project should facilitate the integration of other subject-specific collections of research software in the future. Furthermore, a case study shows how mathematical research data contributes to five of the nine core components of EOSC.
