The PANDIA project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has the aim to create a platform that helps to understand and analyze terms of use for data.

The GDPR was supposed to put the individual at the center of rights management. All data processing requires knowledge of the data subject in order to enable the possibility of checking and revocation or opposition at any time. The core of this is the commonly used data privacy policy. However, even the GDPR could not achieve the related transparency; the requirement of "clear and simple language" from Art. 12 (1) clause 1 GDPR is hardly being observed.

The platform developed within the framework of the project is intended to translate the legal language of the data privacy policies into said clear and simple language. This transfer will also provide further possibilities to assess the processing methods of services. It should be possible to compare individual services and thus promote an understanding of data economy. The benefit to society is therefore to improve the comprehensibility of data privacy policies in general and to create the basis for data competence of the users.

FIZ Karlsruhe supports the project partners with legal expertise in examining data privacy policies and in implementing the platform in compliance with data privacy and other legal requirements.
