swMATH

Modern mathematics would be unthinkable without computers and the appropriate software. Mathematical software solves mathematical problems and realizes mathematical models. It has therefore become an integral part of mathematical knowledge. Mathematical software is often application-oriented and indispensable for many key technologies such as chip design, drug development, or the planning of mobile networks.

With the information system swMATH FIZ Karlsruhe significantly contributes to the indexing of mathematical software and to improving its searchability.

At present, swMATH contains about 39,500 software packages and about 510,000 references to more than 258,000 mathematical publications. The references to the publications are available via zbMATH Open together with many links to other relevant information. 

swMATH is based on the innovative assumption that there is a close relationship between publications and software. swMATH creates links between references to software packages and literature contained in zbMATH Open that cites these software packages. Thus, users get a clear overview of existing software packages, their usage and their potential fields of application. At present, swMATH is further developed in collaboration with Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB) within the scope of Forschungscampus Modal funded by the BMBF.
